Ibe Ananaba is a multidisciplinary artist exploring the impact of sociocultural complexities on contemporary living, with an interest in art as a tool for social transformation. He is always willing to push creative boundaries and enjoys experimenting with diverse traditional and non-conventional materials as a painter, illustrator, muralist, art director, calligraphist, and designer.

Currently a Sessional Faculty at NSCAD University alongside his studio practice, Ibe was a collaborator in the ‘Decolonizing and Deconstructing Space Project’- a participatory research project at Acadia University, Wolfville. His art has been used as a case study for project theses by various University scholars across Nigeria. He is listed in the Smithsonian Institution Libraries Collections. He has won awards, including the 1st Prize Winner of the Art Masters contest (Art Vancouver 2019). Ibe was the artist in residence for the 2024 VANS (Visual Arts Nova Scotia) program at Wonder’neath Studios in Halifax. He recently partook in the travelling group exhibition titled ‘The Secret Codes’ at The Textile Museum in Toronto. In 2023, Ibe participated in the group exhibition ‘Black Euphoria’ at the Art Deco Museum in Miami. He was a panellist at the 14th edition of Contemporary African Diaspora Arts (CADA), where he presented ‘Black Fashion Is Art’ during Art Basel Miami 2023. Among other international journals, Ibe Ananaba’s works have been prominently featured in notable publications such as Fashion: A Second Language (Shoko Press, London, 2020), Watercolor Artists Magazine (“Making a Goal” April Edition, 2019), Masters of Watercolors (Planeta Muzyki Publishers, Finland, 2018), The Villager – How Africans Consume Brands (Tracey McDonald Publishers, South Africa, 2018), Fashion Illustration Africa – A New Generation (Shoko Press, London, 2016), Artists of Nigeria (5 Continents Edition, Italy, 2012), A Celebration of Modern Nigerian Art – 101 Nigerian Artists (Ben Bosah Books, 2010), Unifying Africa (Photo.Garage, 2010), and many others. Ibe is a member of the Black Artist Network of Nova Scotia and Visual Arts Nova Scotia.
