Tekaronhiáhkhwa Santee Smith, an Onkwehon:we woman from the Kahnyen’kehàka (Mohawk) Nation, Turtle Clan from Six Nations of the Grand River, Ontario.
Santee’s newest project The Mush Hole, was developed with the support of Prismatic’s Level Up Project and we are honoured to present the debut performance at Prismatic 2018.
The Mush Hole dance-theatre performance acknowledges the lives and spirits of Mohawk Institute residential school survivors. Keeping hope as the driving force, the performance offers and reflects truths of the Mohawk Institute and relives the experiences and devastating impacts on both the students and the parents who were without their children. The Mush Hole is about survival, resilience, and is an embodied way to say: “Enskwakhwahshón: rien – we will feed your hunger, kwè:iahre – we remember you, kwanorónhkhwa – we love you.”
