Prismatic is hiring a Community Arts Coordinator (Outreach) and an Event Coordinator (Production).
Eligibility
These positions are funded by Canada Summer Jobs. Eligible candidates must be currently unemployed or underemployed; between 15 and 30 years old at the beginning of employment; a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislations and regulations. International students are ineligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents.

Access
These positions may be a combination of work-from-home and in-person at the Prismatic office. Tasks will largely require use of a laptop and internet access. If you do not have access to the internet and a computer, we encourage you to apply regardless and will work with you to arrange potential accommodations.
The Prismatic office is located in Neptune Theatre’s building in downtown Halifax, at 1580 Barrington Street (map). The main entrance on Barrington Street has eight steps, and there is a ground-level, wheelchair accessible entrance on Argyle Street. There are two single-user, all genders, wheelchair accessible washrooms located on the same floor as the office.
Prismatic uses English for all its day-to-day operations, and the two senior staff you will primarily work with speak and write fluently in English only.

Community Arts Coordinator
Application deadline: July 12th at 5pm
Anticipated start date: August 23rd
$14/hour, 35 hours per week, 8 weeks
The Community Arts Coordinator (Outreach) will work with the Artistic Director and senior staff to prepare and execute Prismatic’s 2021 festival this fall. They will conduct outreach, manage the volunteer team, and assist with marketing, communications, and social media.
The individual will work independently and with the Prismatic team, with guidance and mentorship from the Artistic Director. The position will be 35 hours per week, and will require the individual to work evenings and weekends as needed. The position may be a combination of work-from-home and in-person at the Prismatic office in downtown Halifax, depending on provincial health and safety guidelines. The individual must be able to work on-site in downtown Halifax during the festival.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create and conduct outreach and audience-building strategies
- Manage a volunteer team during the festival
- Assist with festival preparations and execution
- Assist with creating and posting social media content
- Assist with creating and executing marketing and communications strategies and materials
The ideal candidate:
- has experience leading a team
- is able to take direction from senior staff
- has excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills
- has experience with social media platforms and basic marketing tools
- is comfortable with project management and audience development
- is eager to learn and has a genuine interest in the arts and working with Indigenous artists and artists of colour

Event Coordinator

Anticipated start date: August 23rd

The Event Coordinator (Production) will work with the Artistic Director and senior staff to prepare and execute Prismatic’s 2021 festival this fall, and will coordinate the production aspects and logistics of performances and events.
The individual will work independently and with the Prismatic team, with guidance and mentorship from the Artistic Director. The position will be 35 hours per week, and will require the individual to work evenings and weekends as needed. The position may be a combination of work-from-home and in-person at the Prismatic office in downtown Halifax, depending on provincial health and safety guidelines. The individual must be able to work on-site in downtown Halifax during the festival.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work with Artistic Director and Producer to plan festival events
- Assist on-site with show execution, load-in, and teardown during the festival
- Work with Artistic Director and Technical Director to assess and resource production needs of artists’ performances and festival events
- Create pre-festival and production schedules
- Coordinate technical personnel with Technical Director
The ideal candidate:
- has experience managing a project or team
- has strong organizational skills
- has knowledge and experience relating to event or theatre production
- has a valid Class 5 driver’s license (considered an asset)
- is resourceful, detail-oriented, and able to work in a fast-paced environment
- is eager to learn and has a genuine interest in the arts and working with Indigenous artists and artists of colour
