Open Borders is an international music group based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, featuring Mohammad Sahraei on tar, Behrooz Mihankhah on piano, Yousef Mousavi on guitar, Lukas Pearse on bass, and Matthew Gallant on drums.

Founded by Mohammad and Matthew in 2017, Open Borders has played in a variety of formations, including a large concert with a twenty-piece international music ensemble. These concerts have featured multicultural Canadian soloists performing Arabic, Chinese, Indian, Iranian, Cuban, and Celtic music, American jazz, and traditional African music, and have been a fundraiser for a future world music museum in the city.

Open Borders has played at music festivals and events across the Atlantic provinces, including DiverseCity Multicultural Festival on Prince Edward Island, EVERYSEEKER, Upstream Music Association’s Open Waters Festival, Halifax Multicultural Festival, Feast Festival, Iranian and Indian cultural events, and Halifax Jazz Festival.

Open Borders’ unique sound is influenced by Iranian folk and classical music, jazz, rock motifs, Western classical music, and an overall love for international music. The band is currently working on their debut album of original music.
