Tara Taylor is an award-winning Afro-Indigenous multidisciplinary artist, 2D animator, playwright, composer, and cultural leader from East Preston, Nova Scotia. Through animation, theatre, music, and film, she creates emotionally rich works that celebrate Black stories, history, imagination, and community while exploring themes of identity, healing, and resilience.

Tara is the Artistic Director of the Charles Taylor Theatre & Media Arts Association, Chair of the Union of Black Artists Society, Festival Director of the Emerging Lens Cultural Film Festival, and the voice behind CBC Information Morning’s weekly arts segment, Art ‘n Soul. Her contributions to the arts have been recognized with the Creative Industries Nova Scotia Black Artist of the Year Award, the Screen Nova Scotia Community Recognition Award, and Theatre Nova Scotia Merritt Award nomination recognition for outstanding theatrical work. In addition to her own creative practice, she has mentored and developed the next generation of Black filmmakers, playwrights, actors, and animators.

Whether on stage, on screen, or through animation, Taylor’s work is rooted in the belief that storytelling can preserve history, inspire change, and create spaces where communities see themselves reflected with authenticity, beauty, and joy.

Amara and Her Glow is a digitally hand-drawn 2D animated short exploring identity, confidence, and self-discovery through the eyes of a young Black girl. Blending expressive illustration, original music, and gentle keyframe animation, the film celebrates the beauty of embracing one’s authentic self and reminds us that even the smallest light has the power to illuminate the world.
